Overview

Located on North Africa, Algeria is a popular expat destination on the continent. The country seduces expatriates for its rich diverse culture and as it is greatly open to the world.

Large numbers of expatriates have already settled in Algeria to live and work, its economy offering job opportunities in oil, services and construction sectors. Mastering Arabic and French is a real asset to settle here.

VISA Info Visitors from Libya, Malaysia, Maldives, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Seychelles, Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Syria, Tunisia, and Yemen may come in visa-free and stay for up to 90 days. Algerian Consulates and Embassies in respective countries handle visa applications. There are different kinds of visas available: tourist, family, business, work, cultural, transit, press, medical, and student; each with different requirements. Please check in with the Algerian Embassy/Consulate in your country for these requirements.
Work Permit Work permits for Angola are granted to expats who are temporarily employed by an Angolan company or the state.
There are 2 types of work permit in Algeria: the regular work permit, which is issued to employees of foreign nationality, and the Annex 10 work permits, which are issued only to French and Tunisian nationality. Regular work permit application costs $60, while Annex 10 applications are free.
It is essential that you get a temporary work authorization (APT) as this is a mandatory document to apply for a work permit. The APT process takes at least 15 days and once obtained, work permit procedures should be started from the Algerian Embassy of your country.
Tax & Social Security

Income tax is deducted from industrial occupations, commercial, craft and non-commercial profits, farm income, rental income and wages, salaries and other benefits.
Rates apply as follows:
A maximum of 120,000 dinars – 0%
Between 120,001 and 360,000 Algerian dinars – 20%
Income between 360,001 and 1,440,000 dinars – 30%
Over 1,440,000 dinars – 35%.

Income tax can be settled by three methods: in instalments (30% of the profit realized during the past exercise), payroll deduction and provisional taxation.
